Culture of praise and celebration
As a school we believe that effort and success should be celebrated; we know that noticing when children make good choices or put in effort makes a difference. We use the following mechanisms to recognise children’s effort and contribution:
1 – ClassDojo achievement points
Children are rewarded with 5 points each lesson for effort, behaviour and social interactions.
ClassDojo points appear on your child’s Dojo account so you can easily support positive contributions by checking the account. Staff also use the ClassDojo system to send home quick positive messages to parents and carers.
2 – Friday celebration assembly based on Dojo points
Each Friday morning we celebrate achievement by grouping all children into gold, silver or bronze. Gold and silver achievers earn a reward presented to them in assembly. Gold achievers have first selection of Friday rewards 5 activities, silver have the next choice, and then finally bronze.
3 – Friday rewards 5
Each lesson 5 on Friday afternoon is spent working on an activity that excites and motivates children. They have a choice of activity and select it based on the number of ClassDojo points achieved. Activities include playing football , Jump360, campfire skills, cooking, art, boxing, computer time (lots more goes on!). Children decide on the trips and activities offered through the Junior Leaders.
4 – Headteachers award
Two children achieve a headteachers award each week based on great contribution or improvement. Parents are informed and the child’s name is added to the star tree in the hallway. Children enjoy a cup of tea and bacon sandwich whilst we chat about school and how well they have done that week.
5 – Attendance awards
All children achieving 100% attendance each week are rewarded, with additional recognition through certificates and phone calls home each half term.
6 -Phone calls home
We commit to communicate with parents/carers on a regular basis to celebrate excellent effort, attitude or progress. This may be academic or a social/SEND goal.
